Ano Mera

The second largest and one of the oldest, Ano Mera is located 8 km from Mykonos Town to the east, within walking distance of PanormosBay, and has several large hotels and some rooms.and studios for rent. Despite the hordes of visitors, this town strives to present the image of a traditional, workaday village, though the effort is rather in vain.

The nearby 16th century monastery of Panagia Tourliani houses a fine collection of icons and an 18th century marble baptismal font. The late 12th century Palaiokastro monastery is just to the north of the village sits in a little green oasis of its own amid the general barrenness of the surrounding slopes.

Platis Yialos

The name means, approximately, ‘wide beach’. A scenic resort on a bay protected from the heavy southern winds, it offers boat excursion to many other beaches and to Delos. To the north of the town is an underground cistern, known as Pigadhi tou Giannrou (Giannaro’s Well)., with steps on one side that lead down into it. Remains of Hellenistic fortresses (referred to by the locals as Portes, or doors) are found at the site called Leto. Nearby Psarou is a popular jet-ski area.
