Mykonos at a Glance

Mykonos is one of the most popular and best loved Greek Islands due primarily to its many fine sandy beaches, easy going party atmosphere and the proximity of the near by island of ancient Delos with its myriad ancient ruins and temples. Among Greece Travelers, after Crete, Mykonos is the second most visited island in Greece. A star member of the Cyclades island group Mykonos is located in the southern central Aegean.

Along with Santorini, which is the southernmost island of the Cylcades archipelago, Mykonos, to the north, has been a the major Greek island tourist destination since the 1960’s and famed for its charming and representatively Cycladic main town (Hora) comprised of traditional whitewashed houses whose byways were deliberately designed with labyrinthine streets in order to confound maurading pirates.

Mykonos has a well deserved reputation as a party island for both straights and gays who seem to be able to get along together just fine. There are many bars and clubs catering to just about everyone under the sun and no barriers to worry about if you stray into the wrong place. People come to Mykonos to have a good time and to meet others of the same and oppositie sex. Mykonos is a lucky island for just about everyone.

Many cruise ships pull into Mykonos for a few hours because of the atmosphere and the great shopping. Items range from everything from gold jewelry and artistic bric a brac to clothing, shoes and a lot more besides. Since Mykonos attracts many full time Greek artist residents unique art items from sculpture to jewelry to clothing are available for purchase. You have’nt seen Greece if you miss Mykonos!
